What You’ll Need For These Halloween Sugar Cookie Bars

  • For the sugar cookie bars:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • For the frosting:
  • 5 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp. milk
  • Orange gel food coloring
  • Halloween sprinkles

How To Make Halloween Sugar Cookie Bars

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.


Line an 18×13 baking sheet with parchment.


In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar.

Add the milk and eggs, and mix until combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking powder, cream of tartar, salt, and all purpose flour.

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the first bowl, mixing until just combined- careful not to over mix.

Pour the mixture onto the baking sheet and smooth. The batter should go to the edges of the pan. Bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes. Edges will be golden brown and middle will still be pale, but a toothpick inserted in the center shouldn’t come away with any raw batter.

Allow the cookie bars to cool.


For the frosting, in a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sour cream.

Add vanilla and mix.


Add powdered sugar and a generous amount of orange gel food coloring, and mix until well combined.

Add milk, as needed for the perfect consistency. The frosting should be pourable. If needed, add additional orange color.


Pour the frosting over the sugar cookie bars and smooth out evenly.

Top with Halloween sprinkles.


Allow the bars to chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
