For the sugar cookie bars:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 cups all purpose flour
For the frosting:
- 5 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 3-4 tbsp. milk
- Orange gel food coloring
- Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Line an 18×13 baking sheet with parchment.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar.
- Add the milk and eggs, and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking powder, cream of tartar, salt, and all purpose flour.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the first bowl, mixing until just combined- careful not to over mix.
- Bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes. Edges will be golden brown and middle will still be pale, but a toothpick inserted in the center shouldn’t come away with any raw batter.
- Allow the cookie bars to cool.
- For the frosting, in a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sour cream.
- Add vanilla and mix.
- Add powdered sugar and a generous amount of orange gel food coloring, and mix until well combined.
- Add milk, as needed for the perfect consistency. The frosting should be pourable. If needed, add additional orange color.
- Pour the frosting over the sugar cookie bars and smooth out evenly.
- Top with Halloween sprinkles.
- Allow the bars to chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Cut into squares and enjoy.
