Ingredients
- Hard candies in Halloween colors
- No-Spread Crispy Sugar Cookie Dough
- Small food processor
- Zip lock bags
- Small bowls
- Rolling pin
- Parchment paper
- Halloween cookie cutters
- Paring knife
- Spatula
- Baking sheets
- Cooling rack
- Serving platter
Instructions
- Make the sugar cookie dough using this recipe. Do not bake it yet.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Use a small food processor to crush the candies. Alternatively, place them in a zip lock bag, seal it, and crush them with a rolling pin. I crush the candies by color so I don’t have to separate them later. If crushed together, separate them into colors before moving on.
- Roll out the sugar cookie dough to 1/3-1/2 inch thick.
- Use the Halloween cookie cutters to cut out shapes in the dough. Transfer them to the baking pan, leaving at least 1 inch in between.
- Use a paring knife to trace and cut the centers out of the cookies. Leave at least 1/2 inch of dough around the edges. Remove the centers.
- Fill the cut-out centers of the cookies with a teaspoon of crushed candy, keeping one color in each cookie. Make sure to spread the pieces to the edges.
- Bake the cookies for 6-8 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly brown. The candy pieces should be melted and bubbly.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool for at least 5 minutes on the baking sheet.
- Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack, only when the candy centers are completely set.
